For Universities

South-east Asia, and Malaysia in particular, is a key market for UK universities. We can help you in three ways to develop your market presence and increase recruitment from the region.

Regional Office

Around 30 UK universities have set up Regional Offices in Kuala Lumpur, and we can help other universities that aspire to have some kind of permanent representation in the region.

We have to date set up and operated Regional Offices for five UK universities. Through our subsidiary company in Malaysia (S.E.A. Education Advisory Services Sdn Bhd) we are allowed to employ staff on behalf of a client UK university, rent office space, open bank accounts, and carry out other business activities in the country.

How it works

The regional officer is employed by S.E.A. Education Advisory Services Sdn Bhd as a consultant, to work exclusively for the client. In this way S.E.A. takes responsibility for the local HR and logistics issues, and the client university oversees the day-to-day marketing and recruitment activities.

The client pays S.E.A. an agreed sum for the regional officer's pay and travel expenses.

Typical activities

  • Regular visits to agents
  • Attendance at agent fairs
  • Assisting at major education exhibitions
  • Visiting existing partners
  • Arranging for visiting staff to give guest lectures
  • Setting up meeting schedules for visiting staff

S.E.A. will also collaborate with the client on seeking new opportunities such as new partners and advising on new course development.

Marketing

Two routes for universities wanting targeted reach or conventional agent representation.

Bespoke

We work in a proactive manner, by offering bespoke consultancy services for UK universities. Much of the focus of these services is on setting up institutional links and progression routes for students. We can identify potential partners, set up meetings and maintain contact with potential students.

We can also help our clients establish a strong market presence, by carrying out targeted marketing and recruitment activities, and raise their profile with key influencers in the region, such as government officials, local universities, international schools and the British Council.

Generic

We represent some universities as a conventional agent, and provide the normal recruitment services for students such as:

  • Assistance with course application forms
  • Assistance with applying for accommodation
  • Assistance with visa applications
  • Pre-departure briefings
  • Advice on scholarships
  • Attend local marketing and recruitment events on behalf of a client
  • Advice on market trends and new course development

Get in touch

Discussions on new proposals, associated contracts and forward planning are initially held with the UK office. Once agreements are established much of the day-to-day operational matters are agreed between the university's international officer and the local staff.
